Gender Equality and SDGs.

Must read

Introduction:

Gender equality is the idea of providing equal opportunities to different genders based on individual performances rather than skill-based positions. In 2015, the United Nations developed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the fifth of which focuses on gender equality. SDG 5 aims to empower all women and girls. It works to abolish sexism in the world today and protect the rights of men and women.

Correlation with the SDGs relating to Gender Discrimination:

There are numerous women’s problems that fit different categories, according to the SDGs. One of the SDGs is to achieve gender equality by eliminating gender disparities and combating sexual exploitation and gender-based violence. It also aims to end forced child marriages and halt the practice of genital mutilation.

The other issue is domestic and parental responsibilities, which are important for both men and women to carry out well. Creating equitable managerial possibilities throughout all facets of life, including the political, social, and public spheres, is another important issue. The fourth reason is that the control of the process of birth rates and sexual health programs is incorporated. This is based on the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development Programs. The fifth issue is to provide women equal rights to inheritance, natural resources, land, property, and asset values. Another issue is to make active use of information technology to promote women’s supremacy in the corporate world at large.

Last but not least, legislative policies in media, education, social context, and relevant theories must adapt to the government’s rule

Role of the SDGs:

For a peaceful and sustainable society, it must include SDGs of gender equality as a fundamental human right. The globe is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030 under SDGs, despite decades of advancements. Article 5 states how this indication predominates and how it operates on the basic provision of women’s and children’s rights. The CEDAW states that all nations have decided to abolish racist laws against women and to advance gender equality in all walks of life.

Furthermore, this provides opportunities to women in the health care system, education, and job opportunities. It also grants women the right to vote and allows them to change their child’s name and nationality. Moreover, this also works to eliminate all kinds of social discrimination against women and girls including sexual exploitation. It promotes women’s rights in reproductive matters and criticizes the social norms and values in interfering with women’s healthcare issues. In a nutshell, CEDAW promotes equal and best opportunities to both women and men through public and political platforms. This aims to build a healthy and solid foundation for granting human rights, such as gender equality, to the people.

Gender Equality in the Modern World:

During the pandemic, women have suffered from gender inequality, domestic violence, social abuse, and home security to provide life’s necessities. According to the World Economic Forum’s July 2022 report, the pandemic has created a huge challenge for the world. Therefore, to pose it back and develop strategies to strengthen the world respectively. This means that it will take 135.6 years to rebuild the initiatives of women and children in a better place. In the meantime, companies and organizations have cut women’s salaries which implies there is no job security. As a result, there has been a big social stratification based on unpaid care and domestic work that relies on the huge drop in women worldwide.

Another goal of the UN Development Program is to provide healthy security programs for all women going through sexual exploitation and reproductive procedures. With the latest report, the Supreme Court in Dobbs vs Jackson World Health Organization has removed the protection of the abortion services of women. This has created a huge drastic change in 20 states of the world which helped to implement new development plans to formulate or remove the process of abortion in the respective states. Furthermore, this has also taken a huge step for the women to take active charge of their own reproductive health care decisions but also violates the policies of the precedent case of Dobbs vs Jackson World Health Organization.

Moreover, this protects the healthcare, education, and quality information relating to the use of contraceptive methods to control the high birth rate and to regulate the social reproductive programs which are aimed to monitor the healthcare of women and children respectively in the USA. However, under-developed states like Poland, Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador have no access to social development programs. They are still lacking behind in granting equal and better opportunities to women in terms of good healthcare programs and social security. The other resulting problems for women that come with ignored facts are the quality of education, poverty, and the profound knowledge that is still an ongoing debate about gender equality. However, there are a lot of organizations that are still working to eliminate the root cause of gender inequality issues.

Conclusion:

The European Union and UN have joined hands to build new techniques and developmental programs to curb the high poverty rate, unlimited birth rate relating to illegal pregnancies, and the social framework to mitigate domestic violence in homes and workplaces through the new program called Spotlight Initiative. Furthermore, this initiative has also been designed to achieve gender equality and women empowerment which is the overall aim of the 2030 SDGs Program, the program of 500 Euro million as the investment of the new program and provision will take place through a UN multi-stakeholder trust fund managed by the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office with assistance from UNDP, UNFPA, and UN Women, as well as under the direction of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General.
